Make sure you have read both out safety instructions safety instructions and basic candle making instructions before you do any of these projects.

It is hard finding white garden flares and they are really easy to make. They look wonderful in the evening surrounding a marquee - or lining a path.

For the garden flare illustrated below you will need:- A dipping can, length of bamboo, a cotton bandage, 2cm wick, wax.

You can make flares over a large bowl of wax by repeatedly pouring the wax over the bandaged bamboo stock, but
make sure your heat source is off and you have protected your surfaces as the wax might splash! If you have a dipping
can use it - it is much simpler!

Heat Wax  Gently heat some wax to a temperature of 63c (150f) and add dye and a few drops of citronella if you want your flares to be insect repelling.

Dip the bamboo into it about 15 times, dipping into water between each dip so that the wax
cools down between each dip and you get a good covering of wax.

Wrap the wax covered bamboo stick with a cotton bandage  You can also use cotton rags for this - about two
layers will be enough.

Push a small length of wick  between the bandage and the wax. This will make your flare easy to light.

Dip the flare into the wax again. Repeat until the bandage or rag is completely covered with wax.
