Make sure you have read both out saftey instructions safety instructions and basic candle making instructions before you do any of these projects.

Another variation which can be achieved by dipped a candle into a variety of different coloured waxes. Much simpler than the dip and carve candle as you do not have to work as fast. However, you will need a few dipping pan of different colours - but you can dip a ball candle rather than a taller candle so you can use smaller containers for the coloured dips. You can use ready made candle for this project.

You will need:-A dipping can of heated blue wax with 10% of microcrystalline soft wax added. A dipping can of heated yellow wax with 10% of microcrystalline soft wax added. A ready made candle. Sharp knife, washing up liquid, a round headed hammer and a potato peeler, and a container of water.

Dip the candle four times into the yellow wax, then into the container of water. Repeat with the blue wax. The dip twice into the yellow wax and finally three times into the blue wax. Obviously you can chose the colours you like - and can have more colours in the outer layers if you wish.

Take a sharp knife and trim the bottom of the candle so that it will stand up straight.

Rub a little washing up liquid onto the head of your hammer (to prevent it stick to the wax). Then gently hammer
the candle all over until the entire surface is dented.

Now take your potato peeler and begin to scrape off the wax to reveal the marbled pattern underneath. Do it quite gently - it is up to you when you stop - sometimes if you scrape too much you can lose the marbled effect!

Continue to scrape until you have reached a stage when you like the pattern. Do not worry too much about the candle getting cold - you can still scrape when it has lost its heat.

Heat a dipping can with wax to 190F (88C) This will smooth the candle and leave it with a shine. It will be even more shiney if you dip it in the clear wax and then into cold water immediately afterwards.
