| Make sure you have read both out safety instructions safety instructions and basic candle making instructions before you do any of these projects. Sand candles have been around for years - but they are messy to make. However, if you set yourself up outside with a small sandpit and a safe portable heat source (perhaps an electric heater - remember it is better to heat your wax without a naked flame if you can) they are great fun and with practice can make lovely candles.
Basically
what happens is that you pour the wax in hotter than usual and it takes
up the shape you have made in the sane - so you can easily vary the
shapes you make.
You
will need:- A container in which to put
the sand - or just make them on the beach as they do in California! Prepare
you sand mould. The sand needs to be very slightly damp. Take
a bowl, a square of wood - any object that you think will look nice
and press it into the sand. Make sure that remove your bowl or object. You will see that it has left an indentation in the sand - that it going to be your candle mould!
Heat up your wax mixture to 93c.
Now pour it in VERY GENTLY - making sure that
you move the stream of wax around as it goes into the sand. This is
to avoid the wax making a dent in one place at the bottom which will
mean that your finished candle will not sit evenly.
