You
will need -A candle mould
- baking tray and some coloured wax chips.
When the wax has almost set cut it into squares. Wait until the wax is completely cold then empty the chips out of the tray. Next set up a candle mould in usual way. Make sure that the wick is quite tight - you will have to fix it well at the base and top of the mould. Now place you chips around the wick in the mould to within half a centimeter. When the mould is full of the chips you can then pour your wax in. Prepare a wax and stearin mix of a different colour and heat to 180F 80C. Now fill up the mould with your melted wax. Gently knock the sides of the moulds to make sure that no air has become stuck in with the chips. A chip candle will need little or no topping - depending on how densely place the chips were.
The chip candles shown below were made with yellow, blue and red chips and clear wax was poured over them. Finally the candles have been patterned with a hot wooden handled skewer needle to make the lines.
